Te Kura Kaupapa o Ngāringaomatariki was established as a whānau community initiative by parents and caregivers of primary aged tamariki who desired a Māori medium education option in the Kaipara region.

The kura opened for instruction in March 2007 with 10 tamariki from kohanga reo and 26 tamariki who exited local English medium schools. The kura is pres-

ently located on the site of the former Ōruawharo Primary School which is main-tained by the Hemana whānau for educational purposes.
